Rumors are spreading fast on the closure of the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC). These speculations have spread out like wildfire throughout the community of Rio Tuba, raising concerns about the future well being of the community especially of the Leonides S. Virata Memorial School(LSVMS).

RTNMC and CBNC have been the backbone of the community for decades. Providing much needed employment and to the development of not just the Rio Tuba community but also to the municipality of Bataraza. The two mining companies serve as the pillars of the community, funding various infrastructure projects and education initiatives.
However, due to these rumors, uncertainty and worry flooded the minds of the people. Especially on its impact towards LSVMS. The school which has benefited from the funding and support of the mining companies, could face major problems if these companies cease operations.

The school’s buildings, academic programs, and extracurricular activities have all prospered thanks to the backing of the mining companies. Scholarships, educational materials, and infrastructural improvements have all been made possible thanks to their generosity.
Without the financial support and community involvement given by RTNMC and CBNC, the school may have financial difficulties, including teacher reductions in staff, and a decline in the standard of education supplied to its students.
The future of Leonides S. Virata Memorial School is uncertain while the community waits for official confirmations from the mining companies and government officials. Residents, teachers, and students of the community can only hope for a solution that protects the future of their community while protecting the environment.
